On 23 October, the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) published its first Market Performance Report, covering 13 July to 30 September. Revenue climbed fast: non-adjusted gross gaming revenue went from $22.2M in July to $43.3M in August and $56.6M in September, more than doubling in three months. The market opened on 13 July with 15 licensed operators and reached 24 by the end of September, with several more expected to move over before the year ends. The report itself adds a caveat: these figures cover a ramp-up period as operators onboarded, so they do not yet cap the market.
The product mix came out with it. In September, casino games took 75.6 per cent of revenue, sports and event betting 19.5 per cent, live casino 4.9 per cent; active player accounts reached 388,585 — accounts with activity in the month, not unique players — with average revenue per active account at $146. A fixed slice of revenue is earmarked: 2 per cent for First Nations programmes and 1 per cent for social responsibility, funding mental-health and addiction research. CEO Dan Keene reads the early numbers as players valuing strong oversight and moving to regulated platforms. From now on the report ships monthly.
Back to platform selection. Alberta and Ontario are now Canada's two regulated boards, and with monthly data rolling, content sourcing and launch budgets finally have a local benchmark: a casino-heavy, sports-second mix sets procurement weights, and the revenue ramp calibrates the first-quarter marketing pace — do not treat launch month as the norm. One more layer matters: player verification, responsibility tools and data reporting are all day-one conditions here, so the maturity of a platform's compliance modules is worth far more than a pretty interface. And a caveat that comes with monthly reporting: partial months read as a cooling market if you squint; wait for a few full months before calling a trend.
