On September 14, content supplier BETER announced a Gaming-Related Supplier Registration from the AGCO, Ontario's regulator. Note what this is not: not an operator licence. It is the pass to sell content to licensed platforms — esports live streams and real-time data feeds can now be supplied to Ontario's licensed operators in a compliant way. BETER's owned portfolio includes the ESportsBattle eLeagues, the Setka Cup table-tennis series and the BSKT Cup basketball league.
For teams building turnkey platforms, this matters more than one more operator going live.
Ontario currently counts 48 licensed operators and 83 active sites (August 6 figures). Content sourcing gets scrutinized harder every year, and running unregistered supplier content keeps the compliance risk on your own platform. BETER already holds approvals in 10 US states and is targeting Alberta next. Suppliers are racing on compliance; platforms have no reason to move the other way.
One: exclusivity. Owned tournament content cannot be sourced elsewhere — real differentiation, not a reskin. Two: integration cost. Every new supplier means another round of game API integration: document versions, signatures, idempotency, error codes. Worth it only if the content drives retention. Three: concentration. Loading the whole pool onto two or three head suppliers hands them the pricing power — mid-size platforms need an exit lane. For the working checklist see the game API integration guide; the selection order is laid out in the solutions track.
In the licence era the question is not "how many games" but "how clean the source". White-label or custom build, put supplier registration status on the selection checklist — the bar only tightens. Follow-ups land in the news section.
